Cove

Cove is located on the eastern edge of the Grande Ronde Valley in Union County, Oregon. The town is nestled between the nearby Wallowa Mountains and adjacent ridges. Cove was once known as "Forest Cove" due to all the surrounding mountains

Mt. Fanny, a 7,400 ft. peak in the Wallowa range, sits right out side the back door of the residents of Cove.  To the west of Cove are the City of La Grande (about 16 miles) and the Blue Mountains.

With a population of approximately 680 people in the city limits, Cove is a small community; however, when you include the "greater Cove" area, another 1,200 residents are added to the population.  Cove maintains a public library, K-12 public schools, a volunteer fire department, and a small cluster of stores and restaurants in the downtown area including the Cove Warm Springs Swimming Pool, Artesian Blue Water Company, Gilstrap Brothers Winery, the Cove Christian Camp, and the Ascension School Camp and Conference Center.

Cove is also well known for its cherry orchards that still dot the sloping terrain.  With the fertile land surrounding this small community, crops ranging from cherries to wheat to mind are a common sight.  Today, Cove is well known for its cherry orchards, which account for approximately 500 acres of the commercial orchards.

The Cove area also provides access to the Eagle Cap Wilderness from Moss Spring trail head, making it a convenient recreational gateway for those looking to explore and enjoy the great outdoors.  Be it hiking, biking, riding, or just getting some fresh air, the wilderness provides you with endless possibilities.
