Haines

Known as "The Biggest Little City in Oregon," Haines thrives on community support and involvement, as can be seen from its history.  In 1884, after the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, Israel David Haines partitioned a portion of the 1,200 acres of land he owned to establish a townsite, creating what is now the city of Haines.  In the prime of the railroad, Haines became a major supplier of mining, timber, and agriculture products for the Portland markets.

With an estimated population of 400, Haines is a town where just about everyone knows your name.  This little town boasts its own local post office, library, museum, city hall, grocery store, pub, and restaurant.  If you can´t find what you´re looking for in Haines, you´re only a hop, skip, and jump away from Baker City, located only 13 miles away.

Situated near the base of the Elkhorn mountain range, residents of Haines are just a short jaunt from Anthony Lakes and enjoying the downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, hiking, and biking offered by the area.  Wolf Creek reservoir is just miles away as well, offering fishing, boating, and camping.  The residents of Haines are also lucky enough to enjoy the great views of both the Elkhorn and Eagle Cap mountain ranges.
